Project Space Reflection

            I live in a household of nine people so when it’s too noisy and I can’t concentrate at home, I go to my local Starbucks to read a book or do my math homework. I chose two different coffee shops as my places; a corporate coffee shop (Starbucks), and a small family owned coffee shop (Steam Punk). I compared the two different environments, the design of the places and explained what purpose they serve in the community. Both environments were similar to each other, but each place had its own qualities. Each place had its preferred customer. I found that Steam Punk is very unique and different than the usual Starbucks or Coffee Bean coffee shops we usually visit.

            I lived in Palestine for a couple of years; which is a third would county were there aren’t too many corporations, most business are family owned. The coffee shops there are very similar to Steam Punk. Steam Punk sponsors a local artist and has board games and playing cards, same goes to Palestinian coffee shops. I thought it would be pretty interesting doing a little bit of research and comparing both Starbucks to Stem Punk as well as to explain what each place represents.

            The writing process was a little different than project web because I actually typed up the field work and my observation, which made it much easier to start my essay. I did procrastinate towards starting my first draft, but once I started it, it was very easy to add upon it and make corrections. The easiest part of my essay was my first draft, getting all my ideas down in writing. The harder part was organizing my words and ideas and putting them in to paragraphs and extend upon then, which took a little more time and thought.

Project Web Reflection

My group and I decided we would choose to write about the effects of technology on students and their education.  I chose to specify on how technology has helped student, whether it’s taking online classes or downloading eBooks. I have learned a ton of new thing throughout my research about this topic. Technology has come a long way in the past century. People are becoming more aware of what is happening around the world, we are able to video chat with loved ones that live thousands of miles away, and most importantly benefit from the new teaching strategies technology has in store for students. Studies have shown that a student is actually more motivated to read an eBook than a used torn up book. Arnold Schwarzenegger saw a makeover in school textbooks which was eBooks. Technology has also allowed students with tons of other things to do, like work, take care of their elders, and children attend school as well. This was almost impossible twenty years ago, thank to the portability of online classes now we are able to accomplish that.

This semester I was assigned an essay which required some online research to be done. I have done many research essays in the past, but this one was different I got to choose my topic. I have always loved computers and technology, so I thought it was a great idea to write about technology and its benefits. It has benefited more than millions of peoples on the world and is continuing to. I doubt that technology hasn’t benefited one person in the world. It’s used in our daily lives from the hospital, to street light, even in our homes. Preparing students for the future in schools is the key to their future success.

Writing my introduction was the easiest part of the essay, getting all my ideas down on paper. Doing research and finding articles about my specific topic was fairly easy. I found proofreading and rewriting parts of my essay the hardest part, because every time I reread my essay I found something I didn’t like and want to change. Other than that I enjoyed working on this topic and felt accomplished after seeing my group blog and all our essays and posts up.

Essay progress

So far I have dedicated a ton of time and effort in completing my essay. I have been successful doing so. I am continuing to review and make corrections to my essay. This essay has really taught me how to research a specific topic online, and a lot of new thing about technology and our future.

Students and Technology

While many people may complain that technology creates a huge distraction in the classroom, it also has it's pros. For example I have used the dictionary app on my I-Phone over a hundred times to look up words I wasn't familiar with or didn't quite know the definition to in class. Technology has become so portable and accessible in the past 10 years making it easier for us to find answers for things we don't know or wonder about. So next time think about it before you look for the definition of Antidisestablishmentarianism in that 1,600 page dictionary. Save time and use the app!!!

What's the Matter with Kids Today?

This article claims there is something wrong with teenager, scince the average teen uses the internet over 16 hours a week. I disagree, the internet has many benifits including, it has become an advanced way of communicating with your distanced loved ones and family. Instead of sending them letters you could see them face to face using oovoo or facetime.
